Overview

To manage the Engineering department and be in support of Plant and Company performance expectations.  Departments and functions that may be included within the area of responsibility are: Process and Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Systems, Facility Maintenance,  and Product / Process Interface.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

               

Process / Manufacturing Engineering

  • Evaluate and monitor the performance of the manufacturing operations relative to safety, productivity, scrap generation, and 5S performance.
  • Provide Operations Personnel and direct reports guidance and decisions on manufacturing changes to ensure appropriate actions are taking place to meet manufacturing expectations and metrics.

Quality Systems

  • Evaluate and monitor the performance of the manufacturing operations relative to quality standards attainment.
  • Provide Operations Personnel and Direct Reports guidance and direction on manufacturing or quality standards and processes changes to ensure appropriate actions are taking place to meet expectations.
  • Manage process changes, quality auditing processes and resources, and quality standards changes to ensure achievement of customer and owner satisfaction.
  • Perform quarterly quality auditing metrics and scrap (vinyl and krypton) generation published, analyzed and calibrated to Operations Action Plans.

Facility Maintenance

  • Evaluate and monitor the performance of the manufacturing operations relative to equipment uptime.
  • Provide Operations and Maintenance personnel guidance and direction on manufacturing and maintenance activities to ensure appropriate actions are taking place to support manufacturing efforts.
  • Manage maintenance resources and spending to meet or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual respective budgets.
  • Perform quarterly maintenance spending and uptime metrics published, analyzed and calibrated to Maintenance Action Plans.

Product / Process Management at Plant Level

  • Evaluate and disposition special order requests outside published configurations or sizes.
  • Manage product changes affecting the Toledo facility as directed by Corporate Design Engineering, ensuring processes are in place to consistently meet product and marketing requirements.
  • Answer internal (Toledo Plant) and external (Sales and Customer) questions in regards to product specific attributes and performance measures.
  • As required, launch new product manufacturing lines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

 

Experience

Minimum five years experience in engineering within manufacturing. Five years progressive supervisory responsibility in manufacturing environment for a 75 (+) associate organization. Demonstrated ability to manage professional and plant associates with diverse disciplines.

 

Skills/Abilities

Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, critical thinking and problem solving tools.  Thorough knowledge of lean manufacturing and quality systems. General knowledge of building products materials, tools, and techniques required.  Extensive knowledge preferred.  General knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools with a thorough knowledge of Excel recommended.  This position will frequently be faced with new and potentially volatile situations:  The ability to remain calm and think clearly through critical situations is a required skill set to be successful.
