To provide all corporate departments with career path training for all associates in non-technical areas by providing state-of-the-art courses that will enable both exempt and non-exempt associates to grow in their career.


Assumes the overall responsibility of identifying and developing training subject matter relevant to specific job skills.  Collaborates with all levels of management to insure their training goals are met. Maintains a library of courses available and offers advice on external specialized training where needed.


  1. Assess relevant training needs for Ply Gem, in consultation with departmental heads, including assessment methods and measurement systems entailed.
  2. Produce organizational strategy and plans to meet training and development needs, and manage training delivery, measurement and follow-up as necessary.
  3. Design, develop and publish training materials for courses necessary to meet training needs.
  4. Identify, select and manage external training and accreditation bodies, agencies and providers necessary to deliver required training to appropriate standards.
  5. Organize training venues, logistics, transport, accommodation as required to achieve efficient training attendance and delivery.
  6. Ensure all training activities and materials meet with relevant organizational and statutory policies, including health and safety, employment and equality laws.
  7. Manage Ply Gem University by publishing an annual training curriculum for associates and managers to select career path training when needed.
  8. Maintain and manage Ply Gem training center for teaching and delivery of programs.
  9. Design all programs for delivery by Live Meeting. Webinar or Classroom.
  10. Work with external vendor in posting and maintaining a 24x7 video training library for all Ply Gem Associates.




Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Behavioral Science, Education, Organizational Development, Psychology, Marketing, Business Administration or comparable discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.




  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in one or more of the following work disciplines: direct selling, sales management, manufacturing operations and office management including P&L experience.
  • A minimum of five years in classroom training on multiple subject matters.
  • Experienced in preparation and travel to training sites including managing all logistics of training materials.



  • Requires excellent one-on-one and group presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Can identify when audience is involved and what to do when they aren’t
  • High level of competence in power point and PC presentations including imbedded video and integrating internet subject matter into presentations.
  • Design programs and formatting for workbooks, including publication.
  • High level of competence in Microsoft Office.
  • Above average writing skills for use in chart work while training.
  • Ability to use a variety of adult learning and training concepts.
  • Maintaining library of training materials, books and publications for all subject teaching.
  • Design, develop and teach custom programs when requested.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and have a strong presence in a group of people
  • Flexibility with schedules and demands – open minded.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and relationship building required.
  • Must successfully communicate to all levels within the organization.
  • Also requires information search and research skills, analytical and creative problem solving skills, questioning and feedback skills, customer service orientation and commitment to quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiatives.
  • High ethical and moral standards.
