Overview

Provide leadership for a large, complex outbound and inbound distribution system through subordinate supervisors for Ply Gem.  Work closely with Operations, Customer Service, Scheduling, Human Resources and other managers to complete shipments and meet company goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Direct department supervisors and leads in creating, maintaining and enforcing Shipping and Distribution policies and procedures.
  2. Direct and manage activities of the Shipping & Distribution Departments for which responsibility is delegated to supervisors and leads to further attain goals and objectives.
  3. Ensure that products are delivered on-time and complete, at or greater than targeted goals.
  4. Maintain efficiency rates at or greater than targeted goals.
  5. An active member of the company’s safety effort. Oversee safety training and enforcement of company and Department of Transportation safety policy.
  6. Participate in ongoing review and improvement of safety programs and policies. Maintain safety performance levels at or greater than targeted goals.  Safety performance goals include: number of incidents, incident rates, severity rates, and worker’s compensation cost per hour.
  7. Review analysis of activities, costs, operations and forecast to determine the department’s progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  8. Maintain sales vehicle lease, fuel and maintenance program.
  9. Identify and justify the need for capital projects; negotiates leased vehicle rates and freight tariffs; 3pl contracts.
  10. Maintain delivery fleet operational safety and effectiveness to include state and federal DOT compliance.
  11. Oversee clerks who process shipping documents and handle customer communications in regards to shipments.
  12. Resolve complaints from customers.
  13. Carry out direct managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelors’ degree or equivalent combination of education/industry experience required.

 

Experience

Five years progressively responsible experience in a transportation environment which utilized private fleet for distribution required.  Two to three years supervisory/management experience required.

 

Skills/Abilities

Microsoft office. Appion, Power Term, AS 400, Customer Center experience preffered.  Knowledge of and ability to interpret Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.  Ability to speak effectively in front of audiences and interact with customers.  Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Resolve operational and manufacturing problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.  Observe, recognize and resolve employee conflicts quickly and effectively.  Understand, interpret and explain internal and external customer products and process related issues.  Ability to manage multiple projects with critical deadlines.  Think strategically and balance immediate needs with long-term objectives.   Understand budget processes.  Deal with difficult people and difficult situations as well as develop rapport with a wide variety of individuals.  Maintain confidentiality or privileged and confidential information.  Ability to lead and direct individuals to accomplish department and company objectives.  Team build and motivate individuals.

 

Position requires minimal travel (5%).
