The Supplier Quality Engineer will serve as the quality subject matter expert related to supplier quality elements of Ply Gem Windows Quality Management System. The Supplier Quality Engineer will serve as the point person in all quality activities related to the supply chain including coordinating investigation, analysis and resolution of supplier quality problems and development activities by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends, training and leading continuous improvement efforts.



  1. Work with Purchasing to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are implemented.


  1. Maintain and update strategic supplier audit system and schedule.


  1. Conduct supplier audits to drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement.


  1. Monitor, communicate and improve key supply chain KPI’s, including Supplier OTD (Past due), DMR & SCAR’s, DPPM and waste.


  1. Establish specific short / long-term supplier quality goals.


  1. Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformance.


  1. Work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply.


  1. Develop long‐term supplier relationships and generate and implement cost reduction ideas.


  1. Aid Operations in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials following a defined new product development process.


  1. Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase  the  supplier capability of consistently meeting Ply Gem Windows requirements. Projects may include: process analysis, value stream mapping, process capability and throughput analysis, 6Sigma, 5S and Kaizen events.


  1. Drive “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base.


  1. Manage and Control the Ply Gem Windows Supplier Quality Manual.


  1. Provide leadership in corrective actions, utilizing systematic problem solving and error proofing to assist in making quality improvements.


  1. Perform data mining and data analysis to provide pertinent reports in support of supplier performance and risk.


  1. Travel to suppliers to resolve quality problems.


  1. Actively manage suppliers to ensure that there are no regressions when corrective action solutions are implemented.


May perform other duties as assigned.



  • A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.



  • Five years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with APQP process; ISIR, PPAP, FMEA’s etc.
  • Six Sigma Certification (desired) and experience utilizing all applicable tools.



  • Ability to gather and analyze data relevant to engineering and operational issues. Knowledgeable in Six Sigma techniques and DMAIC process.
  • Strong program and project management skills. Able to develop Gant Charts with critical path identified.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret statistical data, productivity reports and supporting documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong problem solving & management skills, 8-D, 5 Why A3, DFMEA.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract or concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.
