Overview

The Plant Quality Engineer is responsible for managing the quality systems used throughout the operation to ensure critical specifications are being met (i.e. those required for maintaining certification and meeting the design intent).  This is accomplished by maintaining all Product Quality Standards in readily available forms capable of being communicated, understood and met during the fenestration production processes.  Further, the Plant Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining gauging systems designed to meet the stated product and process requirements. 

Responsibilities

  1. Supports quality standards including planning, defining, documenting (visual aids) and deployment.
  2. Supports production with associate training relative to standards, evaluations, containment and corrective actions.
  3. Process change implementation relative to quality planning & monitoring.
  4. Performs supplier quality evaluations and standards deployment.
  5. Manages Voice-of-the-Customer (VOC) database and Internal Quality and VOC Quality Alerts.
  6. Design engineering project support from pre-launch to post-launch.
  7. Performs new product launch verifications, launch-netting process capability studies, process audits and process improvements.
  8. Executes random audit process including: Auditor training and daily support relative to inspection, evaluation methods and techniques; interprets quality audit data base management and analysis findings.
  9. Design, deploy, control and calibrate gauge measurement system and manage gauge control database maintenance.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering /Technical Discipline or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

 

 

Experience

Five years’ experience in quality systems (i.e. ISO9000, Ford QOS etc.), statistics, metrology and continuous improvement in a medium sized manufacturing organization.  Two to five years of supervisory experience preferred.

 

Skills/Abilities

Thorough knowledge of fenestration industry requirements, standards and specifications, ASTM standards and industry specifications, production methods and practices, equipment capabilities, engineering drawing interpretations, reverse engineering abilities, measuring methods and systems, analytical and statistical thinking, technical writing skills, photographic documentation skills, measuring and testing development and protocol, field assessments and customer concern evaluations, gauge design and calibration procedure development/deployment/management.  Common measuring devices include calipers, micrometers, optical comparator, gauges, digital camera, video camera and computer.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications required with excellent Excel capabilities mandatory.  Working knowledge of Minitab and business operating systems (i.e. AS 400, J.D. Edwards) desired.
