Overview

As the Plant Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to direct and coordinate activities of the manufacturing facility to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits. This position is responsible for the management of people, equipment, and materials necessary to achieve both daily and long-term productions objectives by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.   

Responsibilities

  • Manages product quality and production flow to meet Simonton’s core value requirements of a quality product, safely produced, on time and complete
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment by providing direction to the Environment, Health and Safety function and through the implementation of Behavioral Based Safety tools and programs
  • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to insure minimum cost, prevent operational delays, and take advantage of opportunities
  • Utilizes LEAN/Six Sigma and systematic problem solving tools and practices to drive efficient manufacturing processes
  • Ensures that Preventative and Predictive maintenance practices and metrics are established, monitored and followed
  • Ensures all established cost, quality, and delivery commitments are met
  • Coordinates manufacturing and maintenance problems to insure minimum cost, prevent operational delays and take advantage of opportunities
  • Addresses and participates in the effective resolution of customer complaints
  • Participates in the employment process for employees by conducting interviews as necessary
  • Prepares and manages budget/capital equipment budget for plant operations
  • Coordinates input from supervisors and group leaders to determine production goals, staffing needs, and equipment utilization, and provides guidance and support as necessary to ensure effective results for the facility
  • Uses SMART tools (including Key Performance Indicators) to provide overall leadership and guidance to resolve quality or process problems and ensures the integrity of work produced within the facility with particular emphasis on identifying ways to run and improve facility operations
  • Prepares and presents communications to production employees, management team, and/or customers regarding productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping, and other key measures
  • Guides and supports line supervisors and group leaders in the following areas: general communication, employee issues including corrective actions, incident investigations, and problem solving and resolutions
  • Ensures consistency between lines through application of employee relation policies for all production employees, i.e. overtime administration, layoff/recall procedures, attendance tracking, etc., and assesses the performance of line supervisors and provides feedback or corrective action as necessary
  • Utilizes corporate performance planning tools to document performance planning and assesses training needs of production employees and line supervisors within the facility and makes recommendations to management with respect to appropriate training programs
  • Enhances positive employee relations and develops employee engagement through motivation and effective communications on a daily basis
  • Monitors consistency in disciplinary/separation procedures
  • Monitors fabrication/equipment changes in the facility and makes recommendations for upgrades in equipment
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  •  Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) or equivalent
  • OR Ten years related experience and/or training
  • OR Equivalent combination of education and experiences
  • Profit and Loss experience
  • Proven record of delivering results
  • Developed communication skills (including effective customer communications/presentations)
  • Track record of developing staff
  • Motivator of people
