Overview

The Cost Manager works closely with Finance, Sales and Operations leadership, driving continuous improvement and decision making via accurate, detailed analysisThe role will also provide supply chain variance reporting and forecasting, evaluate inventory management, production costs and perform financial analysis for the Plant and Group management as required.  Additionally, the role will have managerial accountabilities for one cost analyst, of which career development will be a key deliverable.  On a regular basis, this role will be responsible for ensuring compliance to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and maintaining strong internal controls.  The Cost Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the results of business’ total cost of quality initiative. 

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the preparation of the monthly supply chain financial forecast.

              

  1. Contribute to the preparation of the supply chain annual budgeting process.

 

  1. Direct and coordinate preparation and analysis of monthly operational performance reports.

 

  1. Conduct costing information used in profitability analysis of products, customers, and channels.

 

  1. Oversee all financial aspects of Simonton’s TCOQ initiatives

 

  1. Managerial responsibility for one cost analyst.

 

  1. Develop and guide the career progression of both cost analysts.

 

  1. Act as a financial liaison to the Simonton manufacturing facilities.

 

  1. Oversee the monthly closing process by ensuring all entries are accurate, booked in a timely manner and performing variance analysis with explanation for management review.

 

  1. Perform analytical support to the Plant and Group including: capital analysis, cost improvement project analysis, product cost analysis and other analyses as required.

 

  1. Coordinate and report on the annual physical inventory.

 

  1. Develop operating procedures/systems to improve financial and management reporting as required.

 

  1. Ensure that all accounting activities follow generally accepted accounting principles.

 

  1. Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

 

  1. Assist plant staff to achieve plant goals.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  

 

Experience

Five to eight years of financial and cost accounting experience required.  Prior supervisory and experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

 

Skills/Abilities

                              Strong oral and written communication skills required.  Self-motivation and ability to relate and work well with individuals at all levels of the organization.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is required.  Prefer a strong working knowledge of the inter-relationship between the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.

 

Other

               Requires light travel (less than 10%).
