The Plant Engineer is responsible for leading and/or facilitating plant operations continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives and capacity expansion activities.  Responsible for modifying, creating, and/or coordinating with vendors to supply tooling, equipment, and support utilities in a metal extruding, coating, and cutting facility.  Responsible for being the technical contact for troubleshooting, understanding root cause issues, and providing solutions to minimize operational issues.


  1. Design, direct, and manage multiple projects to upgrade plant equipment, implement increased capacity, and reduce equipment issues.


  1. Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting hands-on research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.


  1. Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components; soliciting observations from operators.


  1. Responsible for creating project engineering schedules and forecasts; Monthly project status reports and change orders.


  1. Participating in contractor meetings and resolving manufacturing/engineering and management project issues.


  1. Design/develop cost reduction projects including follow-up and involvement from conception to completion.


  1. Establish relationships with vendors to keep equipment updated and current with latest technology and improvements.


  1. Work to assure compliance with governmental rules, codes, standards, regulations, and with industry standards. (e.g. OSHA, EPA, RCRA, UST's, CERCLA, SARA, DOT, and other as applicable).


  1. Work closely with Maintenance to assure proper maintenance is performed, incoming equipment is maintainable, and plant utility systems are not overburdened.  


  1. Develop process and project documentation to include capability studies, flow analysis, project charts, blueprints, CPM charts, equipment layouts, Pareto analysis, cost reduction studies, and others as assigned or appropriate.


  1. Participate in teams and plan efforts to maintain safe and orderly work environments. Work with plant personnel to foster and develop teamwork in our efforts to be productive and competitive.


  1. Performs other duties as assigned.



  • 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent engineering minimum
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends



  • Self motivated/managed
  • Proficient in managing large projects and contractors
  • Able to multitask and stay organized
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written to all levels of stakeholders and contractors
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • Hands-on involvement in plant activities
  • Big picture oriented with data analysis ability
  • Able to troubleshoot a variety of systems/equipment
  • Comfortable implementing business-critical solutions and decisions



  • AutoCAD experience
  • Six Sigma Lean knowledge
  • Plant electrical experience (troubleshooting, controls, PLCs)
  • Plant layout/integration experience
  • Root cause analysis experience
