The Transportation Specialist is responsible for routing all deliveries and inbound freight across the Ply Gem Windows transportation network.


  1. All employees are responsible for working safely as a condition of employment.
  2. Responsible for routing all deliveries and inbound freight throughout Ply Gem Windows transportation network.
  3. In fulfilling responsibilities, the incumbent will work to: reduce overall miles and delivery costs, maximize trailer utilization, supply each transportation organization their routing tasks daily (including 3PL providers). Must meet customer delivery restrictions and work to adjust restrictions as appropriate to reduce costs.
  4. Work to reduce inbound freight costs through consolidated routing and backhauls.
  5. Coordinate cross company transfers between operating facilities to maximize delivery performance while reducing costs.
  6. Help develop a system for communicating special delivery requirements or expedited services.
  7. Maintain updated routing information for assigned plants.
  8. Analyze and produce tracking reports to capture freight measurements (i.e. trailer utilization, estimated delivery cost per unit, deadhead miles, etc).
  9. Create and distribute load planning and shipping documents daily for routing location.
  10. Participate in Weekly operational calls with our 3PL partner for assigned facilities.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.



Technical degree required; college degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Logistics or Accounting preferred.



Experience is not mandatory, but routing and logistics work experience is a plus.



      • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets.
      • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
      • Must be able to move in all the environments typical to the transportation industry (i.e. enter and egress tractors and trailers, etc). Must be flexible to accommodate a dynamic working environment.
