  • Overview

    Maintain inventory by identifying manufacturing needs, identifying suppliers, preparing purchase orders and arranging for delivery of items for assigned items.  Maintain information systems and historical references.  Prepare information for bid requests.

    Responsibilities

    1. Purchases required items based upon assigned item responsibility or dollar limit. Assures that the materials are delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and that they meet the quality standards. Prepare and submit purchase orders to suppliers. Follow up on purchase orders, review and manipulate delivery schedules to meet requirements.

     

    1. Procure various supplies for other departments. Review requisitions.  Obtain product from suppliers.

     

    1. Ensure materials are in conformance with company needs. Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with users, suppliers and others in order to determine source of trouble. Take corrective action as necessary.

     

    1. Ensure invoices for purchased materials and services match quoted prices. Verify bills from suppliers against bids and purchase orders.

     

    1. Ensure smooth flow of goods and services into company. Monitor vendor quality.  Communicate quality issues accordingly.  Maintain necessary records and documentation.  Maintain communication with supplier representatives.

     

    1. As assigned, track performance of the supply base and initiate corrective action plans with the supplier if necessary. Insure monthly / annual inventory information is compiled in an efficient, accurate manner. Monitor accuracy of physical worksheet data. Make necessary changes to support count teams.  Enter count information into computer.           

     

    1. Maintain item master file, update information according to Engineering and Manufacturing requirements.

     

    1. Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    Education

    Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Experience

    Minimum of one to three years purchasing experience required.

     

    Skills/Abilities

    Basic computer skills required, experience with inventory control systems or AS/400 experience preferred.  Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills needed for dealing effectively with suppliers required.
