  • Overview

    The Director- Product Marketing ensures that present and future products are taken to market in the most efficient and effective manner, always striving to improve volume and profitability, while maintaining maximum goodwill with the customer.

    As a key marketing management position, leads the strategic planning and budget development for the entire portfolio of designated division products.  Actively serves on the marketing management team participating in establishing, planning, approving, revising, and complementing overall corporate strategies, policies, and objectives.


    1. Informs, through appropriate reports, the Sr. Vice President – Sales & Marketing of the actions and accomplishments including: current projects, future goals and their status, activities of personnel, statistics showing past and current performance versus budget/plan, etc.
    2. Establishes and executes the overall strategic direction for the entire portfolio of division product lines (including product revisions, new product development, and SKU revitalization and/or rationalization) to insure portfolios have necessary depth and breadth while maintaining financial effectiveness.
    3. Primarily responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the budget, assets, and associates toward the achievement of departmental/Company goals.
    4. Maintains adequate care and supervision of all associates reporting to Product Marketing to ensure maximum utilization of human resources in accomplishing departmental/Company goals. Evaluates, motivates, and disciplines subordinate personnel in accordance with the strategic direction of the department, and as appropriate in accordance with company policy and procedures.
    5. Directs Product Managers, where applicable, in supporting pricing strategies and tools to help maximize overall division profitability, taking into consideration legal guidelines, product positioning, current competitive situations, and long term competitive standing.
    6. Create and proactively monitor Product Marketing budgets to drive the achievement of departmental financial goals.
    7. Collaborate with customer engagement and corporate team to develop differentiated positioning and messaging to drive demand for portfolio.
    8. Develop and monitor processes for product development, product management, and product launches to support the efficient and effective achievement of departmental goals.
    9. Develop and maintain competitive intelligence system. Communicate findings to appropriate field and headquarters associates.
    10. Gather, purchase, and commission market research data to identify trends, opportunities, and/or current business performance. Insure data has analytical rigor sufficient for its purpose, and provide interpretation of the data to company officers and other relevant associates.
    11. Help identify opportunities for profitable growth, including but not limited to new categories, markets, geographies, products, terms of sales, or other approaches.
    12. Represent the Company to the public, industry, community, and customers in a manner to enhance its reputation.
    13. Performs other duties as assigned.



    Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or comparable discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.  MBA preferred.


    Minimum of ten years of marketing/marketing management experience.  Experience in the building products and home center industry preferred.  Experience with comparable customer base desired.  Must possess a minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience, including recruitment, staff development, performance management, and proven results of  management and administrative effectiveness for a staff of significant size.


    Highly developed oral and written communication skills required.  Ability to develop and present marketing presentations required.  Professional analytical, mathematical, and problem solving skills required.  Proficiency in applicable PC/software packages required.  Effective in analysis and presentation of marketing data required.  Ability to create and gain buy-in to strategic vision for product lines.


    Position requires moderate travel (30%).
