  • Overview

    Responsible for technical and non-technical tasks associated with the execution of various activities within the Ply Gem Window Group-Rocky Mount Test and Compliance Lab.

    Responsibilities

    • Always work in a safe and effective manner.
    • Test preparation; building of bucks, test unit installations, chamber modifications, equipment set-up and unit staging.
    • Test execution to industry standards; such as Air/Water/Structural testing and Impact testing.
    • Assist in trouble-shooting unit issues and product failures found during installation and testing.
    • Provide technical support and offer recommendation of refinement for current products, as well as new products in development.
    • Detailed product reviews and evaluations of Ply Gem and competitor’s product offering.
    • Test sample corner cut preparation and data collection.
    • Assist in lab project work to include; 6S, lab clean-up, facilities planning and other lab processes.
    • Understand testing schedule and work on several projects in parallel based on priorities.
    • Data Entry and requisition.
    • Maintain test equipment and facility as directed by the Test and Compliance Supervisor.
    • All other tasks and assignments as directed by leadership.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

     

    The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Strong basic carpentry skills and a familiarity with the safe operation of basic carpentry equipment (miter saw, reciprocating saw, table saw, drill press, belt sander, etc.)
    • Demonstrated ability to;
      • Work safely in a lab / manufacturing area.
      • Work independently once the direction is set.
      • Execute technical and non-technical tasks.
      • Self-start when immediate direction is not given.
    • Team player.
    • Lift at least 50 pounds.
    • Basic Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) knowledge required. Advanced knowledge a plus.
    • Must be able to read a tape measure and calipers.
    • Must be able to read and interpret basic technical drawings and documents.
    • Ability to apply basic mathematical operations.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

     

    Education and Experience:

     

    • 1-3yrs experience in window and door manufacturing and/or similar lab environment preferred.
    • A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Some level of college is preferred.
