  • Overview

    This position is national in scope, covering 8 assembly plants, 2 extrusion plants and 1 Cutting plant.  The Director, Continuous Improvement will be expected to lead the divisional efforts to define and deploy a world class manufacturing system in each of our plants.  This includes ensuring Lean methodologies are employed to define optimum operating conditions (Takt time, cycle times, staffing, etc) as well as six sigma methods are used to reduce process variation within each workstation.  This scope of this role goes beyond manufacturing.  This role will be responsible for the adoption of continuous improvement methods by all functional areas within the division; ensuring the division has the needed continuous improvement skills (Lean, Six Sigma, TQC, etc) around the division to meet Ply Gem Window’s annual operating goals and its strategic objectives.


    1. Evaluate existing CI resources within the division.  Ensure there are adequate skills and experience in CI tool usage to effectively implement our long term improvement plans.  Recommend adjustments as needed.
    2. Work with divisional leaders to define and lead the deployment of Ply Gem Windows manufacturing excellence initiatives across all plant locations
    3. As part of deploying our manufacturing excellence initiative, develop the  Key Performance Indicator metrics , balance scorecards and other systems of measurement needed to track our progress
    4. Work with necessary committees in identifying ways to accelerate culture change in making continuous improvement a way of life.
    5. Ensure Lean tool capability (expertise) is developed across the division
    6. Establish a monthly operating rhythm that promotes best practice sharing, and tracks action planning and execution of critical CI initiatives critical to division success
    7. Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-based culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve key business metrics
    8. Instill a standard, disciplined, rigorous, process focused approach to problem solving across the organization
    9. Develop a training curriculum to advance learning on  Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, conduct training as needed and serve as a consulting resource to plant CI teams
    10. Operate as a role model leader by embodying our Leadership Standards, delighting our customers, focusing on growth, and championing employee development
    11. Perform all duties in a safe manner and obey all safety policies and procedures
    12. Perform other duties as assigned



    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, operations, or business discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.



    Ten plus years of operations and/or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required. A minimum of 5 years’ hands-on, practical implementation experience with Lean, Six Sigma and/or other Continuous Improvement methodologies that meet business goals. Lean and/or Six Sigma Certification is required.  Plant Management experience with a Continuous Improvement initiative deployment is preferred.



    Must be able to effectively manage and develop a diverse team of people and facilitate effective cross-cultural business interaction. Strong interpersonal, time management, project management, decision-making and conflict resolution skills. Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes. Ability to maintain high ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct. Excellent computer and analytical skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.



    Position requires heavy travel (50+%)
