  • Overview

    The Commodity Manager will develop, implement, and evolve commodity strategies that secure the lowest total cost from the supply chain. This role will manage the supplier relationships and the performance of day to day supplier management activities that support the Operations in all Plant locations and the product development processes. The Commodity Manger will also facilitate stakeholder support for supply chain strategies with Operations, Quality, Finance, Development/Design, and Marketing.


    1. Develop strategies for key commodities and suppliers to achieve year on year improvement in quality, delivery and cost in support of company objectives
    2. Identify and analyze centrally and non-centrally leveraged spend to identify cost reduction opportunities for direct and indirect materials
    3. Manage and support cross functional commodity teams in the development of commodity strategy and related supplier negotiations, including Supplier Report Card metrics and improvements.
    4. Ensure the smooth operation of business units through continuous supply of goods and services
    5. Work with suppliers to reduce costs through product standardization and consolidating supplier site locations
    6. Develop requests for quotations and proposals, analyze supplier responses, negotiate and award contracts, and manage/improve post award supplier activities
    7. Execute on functions with understanding of impact to the Strategic Initiatives
    8. Drive innovation in product/services from suppliers
    9. Participate and/or lead supplier development and selection within the New Product or EC Management processes.
    10. Performs other duties as assigned



    A Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain or business related discipline is preferred



    A minimum of 5 years of comprehensive experience in procurement and sourcing in a manufacturing environment is required

    ISM certification is preferred



    Ability to meet or exceed financial goals consistently

    Knowledge of Word processing software, spreadsheet software, and project management software

    Knowledge of Total Cost Model to establish Cost Targets

    Strong analytical and data management skills

    Understanding of legal issues and requirements for the management of supplier contracts

    Knowledge of manufacturing, processing, and delivery technologies/practices to allow implementation of continuous cost s, operational quality, and service improvements

    Strong understanding of commodity benchmarking activities

    Experience in contract administration with suppliers

    Ability to apply personal strengths and seeks opportunities for development

    Ability to multi-task

    Ability to meet deadlines

    Effectively communicate written and verbally within a broad organizational framework

    Ability to interact with multiple skills/disciplines across all levels of the organization
